Are you looking to create more sources of income for your crochet business? How many possible sources of income do you think you can have for your business? You don’t have to do all of them it will be overwhelming, you can choose a few to start with and some of them overlap. For example, selling patterns, having a YouTube channel and making finished products go hand in hand. The important thing to note is that each source of income is a stand-alone business and will need your time and resources to make it grow.

Here are 17 ways you can make money with your crochet in 2022

1. Crochet and sell finished products

This you can do using your own designs free or paid patterns. You can sell your products in your Facebook/Instagram shop, WhatsApp shop, your own website, Online marketplace such as Crafty, Hello Pretty, Brown Sense, rent a shelf in a brick and mortar store or sell at craft market

2.  Design and sell crochet patterns. 

Places where you can sell patterns own webite, , Etsy, Raverly, LoveCrafts, Gumroad, Crafty.

3.Teach crochet. 

You can teach groups or one-on-one sessions. You can arrange with a yarn store in your community or find a place where you can teach. You can also use online platforms such as Zoom, Whatsapp or even use course platforms such and Kajabi and SamCart.



4. Start a YouTube channel 

You don't have to be a designer to start a channel; you can talk about crochet or do interviews or add your own twist, the possibilities are endless. To most common way to earn money from your Tube channel  via Ad revenue, you must have 1,000 followers and 4,000 views in the past 12 months. 

There are other tiers of monetization which are: 

  • Channel memberships where you need to have 30,000 subscribers,
  • Merchandise shelf , you need to have 10,000 subscribers 
  •  Super chat and super stickers only available in certain regions 
  •  YouTube Premium revenue, content watched by Premium Subscribers
5. Start YouTube Shorts 

This is different from YouTube channel, you don’t need to have 1000 subscribers or a specific number of views, at the moment it’s not very clear. Your content has to be original and not repurposed from another platform. YouTube will reach out to you when you qualify as long as you have uploaded a YouTube Shorts video in the past 180 days and you live in the participating region/country.

6. Start a crochet membership program 

Join platforms such as Gumroad, Patreon or Buy Me a Coffee and create exclusive content for your members. You can create different monetization tiers for different content.

7. Sell supplies such as hooks, stitch markers, yarn bowls, tape, etc. 

This is self explanatory, you can add your own twist by making ergonomic hooks using resin.

8. Design and sell merchandise such as t-shirts, mugs, bags.

Even if you are not a graphic designer you can find graphic designers on marketplaces such as Afriblocks, Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, GuruX and many more to design the graphics for you. Just make sure that they are their own original designs so you are not accused of copyright infringement. You can also purchase ready-made graphics with commercial license from graphic marketplaces such as Etsy, Creative Market, Creative Fabrica, and Design Bundle and tweak them for free in Canva. 

9. Design and sell journals and planners. 

You can design for free in Canva or pay someone to design for you. These can be sold as downloadable on digital on platforms such as Etsy, Gumroad, Creative Market, Design Bundles etc. You can also sell physical products on your website or marketplaces such Takealot, Hello Pretty, BrownSense, Crafty, Handmade Local ZA. etc. You can also use Amazon KDP to print and fulfill orders for you, most viable when targeting international market.

10. Design and sell crochet clip art 

Same as design of merchandise, journals and planners, you can pay a graphic designer or purchase artwork and work on it to suit your style.

11. Take photos, design and sell crochet mock-ups

These you can sell on stock photo websites like iStock, Shuttershock, 123RF, Dreamstime and many more.

12. Start a blog and join AdSense programme 

 More a long term plan, you need a particular number of views and articles before you are accepted into the program but can be rewarding on the long term. Other alternatives are media.net, Amazon Native Shopping Ads, Media Vine and many more. You will need to have a paid domain and once you set up apply.Join an affiliate programme: International programs such as Amazon Affiliate and E-Bay partner program are easy to join. You can place the links on your YouTube Channel and website. In South Africa, Dropstore also has an affiliate programme you can join.

13. Start a TikTok account and join the creator fund

You need have 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the last 30 days.

14. Design and sell kits

There are so many people that would like to learn to crochet you can sell kits for your pattern including all the supplies. You can also sell kits for your crochet alongs. 

15. Tech edit crochet patterns 

 When designers have completed their designs, before sending it to pattern testers, look for people to edit the pattern to make sure that it is correct and the sizing has been done correctly. So if you have a knack for details and understand written patterns well, you can tech edit patterns at a fee.



16. Write blog posts for crocheters 

A lot of creatives would love to run their business while maintaining a blog for their websites. You can offer a service to write blog and articles. You can get customers on platforms such as Fiverr, GuruX, Freelancer and Upwork.
